Sowing and Growing with the New Agrarian Center and Farm (LCVC)

Volunteers get to spend an evening digging, planting, fertilizing, watering, composting and more with the New Agrarian Center in Oberlin. What we do will depend on the needs of the farm that week but always prepare to get dirty! Modifications to the project may be made to accommodate volunteers with limited mobility.

The New Agrarian Center is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization that helps to build healthy, sustainable & equitable communities and local food systems through two key programs:

- City Fresh provides naturally grown, local produce at weekly Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Fresh Stop's in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties.

- The George Jones Farm is a 70 acre research farm with a rich complex of market gardens, learning spaces, naturally designed buildings, restored wetland, prairie, and woodland habitats. The goal is to train the next generation of farmers while inspiring an ethic of earth care.

Age Limits: This project is for volunteers age 12 and up.  All volunteers under 18 must fill out and bring a youth waiver form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Volunteers under 16 must volunteer alongside a parent or guardian.

Things to RememberWear clothes that can get dirty and a pair of closed toe shoes. Volunteers will spend most of the session outdoors, so dress appropriately for the weather. Bringing a bottle of water, a hat, and sunscreen is recommended for warmer months. The restroom at this project is an outhouse.

Where to Meet Your Leader
Meet in the small gravel parking lot next to the greenhouses, all the way up the driveway.

If you would like to bring a non-oriented volunteer, please email the Opportunity Leader to request permission and reserve a guest spot.
