Games Galore with Veterans

HandsOn volunteers will participate in an evening of games with male and female veterans at the Veterans Domiciliary. Games include: board games, chess, checkers, card games, and dominoes. Modifications to the project may be made to accommodate volunteers with limited mobility. The Veterans Domiciliary, located on the Wade Park Veterans Affairs Medical Center campus, is a state of the art residential care facility that combines rehabilitative clinical services with supportive case management services for homeless veterans. Based on the therapeutic community model, Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), provides a range of rehabilitative care and support to foster veterans’ functional independence and develop a mutual support network with fellow veterans. Volunteers of America is a national, non-profit, faith-based organization dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. Things to Remember: It is advised to leave your valuables either at home or securely in your vehicle. Age Limits: This project is for volunteers age 16 and up. All volunteers under 18 must fill out and bring a youth waiver form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Special Driving Directions: Volunteers should park in the free parking garage attached to the building and enter through the front entrance. Donation Sorting at MedWish International

HandsOn volunteers help sort, label and pack medical materials to be distributed to underserved populations worldwide. Modifications to the project may be made to accommodate volunteers with limited mobility. MedWish International is a non-profit organization committed to the recovery and recycling of donated medical supplies area healthcare providers must discard. These life-saving supplies are made available to those providing medical care in developing countries throughout the world. Things to Remember: Dress comfortably in clothes you are willing to get dirty. Wear closed toe shoes, and leave valuables in your vehicle. Some heavy lifting may be required. Age Limits: This project is for volunteers age 13 and up. Volunteers under the age of 16 must volunteer alongside a parent, guardian, or group leader. All volunteers under 18 must fill out and bring a youth waiver form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Where to Meet Your Leader: New volunteers will meet in the orientation room - first door on the left once you enter the building. Returning volunteers will proceed to the second floor bulk sorting area using the staircase - first door on the right once you enter the building. Special Driving Directions: The warehouse is at the intersection of Payne Ave and E. 31st St. Parking is availble along E. 31st St or in the parking lot across from the buildling along E. 31st St. Enter the building through the door beneath the blue awning.

Food and Fellowship at Hope Lodge

HandsOn volunteers help prepare a main dish and dessert for approximately 35 individuals and families staying at Hope Lodge. Once dinner is prepared volunteers will help serve the meal. Modifications to the project may be made to accommodate volunteers with limited mobility. Hope Lodge is a unique home away from home for people who need temporary, comfortable, supportive accommodations offered free of charge during cancer treatment. For its guests, Hope Lodge offers 31 guest rooms with a private bedroom/bathroom suite and shared kitchen, library, dining room, living room, and surrounding gardens. Hope Lodge provides a positive environment for those seeking either privacy or the supportive fellowship of others experiencing similar circumstances and emotions. Age Limits: This project is for volunteers age 18 and up. Things to remember: Dress comfortably and wear sensible, closed toe shoes. Leave your valuables at home or in your vehicle. Volunteers should not attend if they are feeling sick because of compromised immune systems. Where to Meet Your Leader: On the main floor. Walk past the welcome desk and the kitchen will be on the left. (If the outside door is locked, use the intercom to call and a staff member will come let you in.) Special Directions: Volunteers can park in the "volunteer" parking spaces or on the one way street near the Lodge. If those are full, please check in with the receptionist to get a parking pass for an adjacent parking garage. Once you get a pass, you will exit the Lodge toward Euclid to enter the garage on your left hand side.

Bag Packing with All Faiths Pantry

HandsOn volunteers help pack grocery bags that will be delivered to low income senior citizens and persons with limited mobility in a local apartment building. The mission of All Faiths Pantry is to deliver groceries to elderly people and others with challenges to mobility, each and every month, at no cost to recipients. Age Limits: This project is for volunteers ages 10 and up. All volunteers under 18 must fill out and bring a youth waiver form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Things to Remember: We will be packing bags in a warehouse. Dress in layers. Wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes. Where to Meet your Leader: Meet at the corner of Memphis Ave and W 48th St. at the entrance to the warehouse Special Driving Directions: The warehouse is located where on the corner of Memphis Ave and W 48th St. The entrance to the warehouse is accessible from W 48th St through the driveway, through the doors with awnings. Street parking is available along W 48th St.

Delivering Good Eats with All Faiths Pantry

HandsOn volunteers help deliver grocery bags to low income senior citizens and persons with limited mobility in a local apartment building. Modifications to the project may be made to accommodate volunteers with limited mobility. The mission of All Faiths Pantry is to deliver groceries to elderly people and others with challenges to mobility, each and every month, at no cost to recipients. Things to remember: We will be caravanning from the warehouse to the apartment building (less than a mile) to deliver the groceries so please leave all valuables in your vehicle. Please bring a waterbottle as it can be very hot in the apartment building. Age Limits: This project is for volunteers age 16 and up. All volunteers under 18 must fill out and bring a youth waiver form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Special Driving Directions: The warehouse is located on the corner of Memphis Ave and W 48th St. The entrance to the warehouse is accessible from W 48th St through the driveway, through the doors with awnings. Cat Cuddling & Cage Cleaning at Lake Humane Society (Lake County)

HandsOn volunteers will assist the shelter by cleaning the cat cages and socializing with the cats and kittens while you clean. All necessary training will be provided onsite by the Volunteer Leader. Modifications to the project may be made to accommodate volunteers with limited mobility. The Lake Humane Society & Adoption Center provides a gentle and caring haven for the homeless, abandoned, and injured animals of Lake County and perseveres in defending and protecting animal life through education, integrity, and leadership. Age Limits: This project is for volunteers ages 16 and older. All volunteers under 18 must fill out and bring a youth waiver form signed by a parent or guardian. Things to Remember: Wear clothes that can get dirty and a pair of closed toe shoes. It is recommended that shoes worn at the shelter and not worn at a volunteer's home as it may spread disease to personal pets. Where to Meet Your Leader: Meet in the main lobby of Lake Humane Society. Special Driving Instructions: There is a sign on Tyler Rd for the Lake Humane Society. Parking is available onsite.

BINGO with Seniors at Eliza Bryant Village

HandsOn volunteers will provide a morning of bingo, conversations, and laughter for the residents of Eliza Bryant Village. Modifications to the project may be made to accommodate volunteers with limited mobility. Eliza Bryant Village has been meeting the needs of older adults in our community – and families like yours – for decades. Eliza Bryant’s tradition of care means helping seniors thrive through convenient access to the health services they need – from assisted living or skilled nursing to engaging social programs that help seniors pursue their passions and make new friends. Things to remember: Wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes; please leave all valuables in your car. Age Limits: This project is for volunteers ages 8 and up. Get Serving at University Settlement

HandsOn volunteers will help serve the community meal, pack grocery bags, and serve clients in the Hunger Center at University Settlement. Modifications to the project may be made to accommodate volunteers with limited mobility. The mission of University Settlement is to offer the individuals and families we serve resources by which they can learn, grown, and thrive that meet the evolving needs of the Broadway/Slavic Village Community. Age Limits: This project is for volunteers ages 13 and up. Volunteers under the age of 16 must volunteer alongside a parent, guardian, or group leader. All volunteers under 18 must fill out and bring a youth waiver form signed by a parent or guardian. Things to Remember: Wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes. It is advised to leave your valuables either at home or securely in your vehicle. Park in the parking lot or on Czar Ave. Meet the Volunteer Leader in the lobby of the building. Where to Meet your Leader: Buzz in the door and sign in at the front desk. Then turn around and walk straight back from the office into the hunger pantry. Your leader will be waiting for you there. Special Driving Directions: University Settlement is a green building that looks like a house/cottage.

Beach Clean-Up with Drink Local Drink Tap

Volunteers will work to beautify Perkins Beach and Edgewater Beach by picking up litter and trash. Please see the schedule and Special Driving Instructions below for the location of the clean-ups. The goal of Drink Local. Drink Tap., Inc. is to creatively reconnect people to our local water. Removing the manufactured demand of plastic bottled water, reconnecting people to Lake Erie in water-safe ways though eco-friendly lakefront activities and helping advocate for partnerships that protect our shared water resources provide a comprehensive and focused path to reaching the group’s goals and objectives. 2019 Project Dates and Beach Locations: 4/27/2019 Edgewater Beach 5/18/2019 Perkins Beach 6/4/2019 Edgewater Beach 7/13/2019 Perkins Beach 8/31/2019 Edgewater Beach 9/28/2019 Perkins Beach Things to Remember: Other groups will be volunteering, please check-in with the HandsOn NEO representative. Turn right on West Boulevard toward the lake and take a left at the 'T' in the road into the parking lot. If you've passed the Cleveland script sign you've gone to far. EDGEWATER BEACH (BEACH HOUSE): We will meet near the Edgewater Beach House. From the OH-2, take the Edgewater Park exit and make the first right. Take the 3rd exit at the traffic circle to the parking lot. Park near the Edgewater Beach House.
