Delivering Good Eats with Lorain County Office on Aging (LCVC)
Lorain County Volunteer Connection volunteers help deliver grocery bags to low income senior citizens and persons with limited mobility in cities and neighborhoods of Lorain County. We will meet at the Office on Aging to pick up the food and our route assignments. We will deliver the groceries to our route, checking in on the seniors and making note of any concerns, then meet back at the office to return paperwork and any undelivered food.
The Lorain County Office on Aging strives to improve the health of seniors & disabled adults through: assessment, benefits assistance, support services to remain independent for as long as possible, linkage/referral, transportation assistance, home food delivery, housekeeping, chore assistance, food pantry services, volunteer placement, kinship services and Senior Years newspaper.
Age Limits: This project is for volunteers ages 4 and up. Volunteers under the age of 16 must volunteer alongside a parent, guardian, or group leader. All volunteers under 18 must fill out and bring a youth waiver form signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Things to remember: This project requires driving. It is a good idea to drive with someone else who can help navigate, this person (co-pilot) does not have to be an oriented volunteer, so bring a friend! If you have a GPS, it is a good idea to bring it. Also, make sure you have a cell phone because after you deliver to one house, you’ll be calling the next house to let them know that you’re on your way. Please drive safely and always make sure your car is stopped and pulled over to dial a phone number.
Where to Meet your Leader: On the 2nd floor. Take a left out of the elevator, walk past the welcome desk and the sorting room will be on the left. (If the outside door is locked, use the intercom to call and a staff member will come let you in).
PLEASE NOTE: For the month of November ONLY, volunteers will be picking up groceries at the United Way office at 642 Broadway Ave, Lorain, OH 44055.
If you would like to bring a non-oriented volunteer (youth volunteers under the age of 16 or a friend/family member) please email the Opportunity Leader to request permission and reserve a guest spot.
Special Driving Instructions: Enter the parking lot from School Street behind the building. The building is an L shape and the door is on the inside corner of that L shape. If the volunteer leader isn't at the door, just ring the bell.
PLEASE NOTE: For the month of November ONLY, volunteers will be picking up groceries at the United Way office at 642 Broadway Ave, Lorain, OH 44055. Volunteers can pull up directly behind the United Way building and enter through the back door.
