GED Tutoring at Merrick House
HandsOn volunteers will work one-on-one with Merrick House students in helping them prepare for their GED test, including reading/writing, science, social studies and math practice work. Modifications to the project may be made to accommodate volunteers with limited mobility.
This project requires an extended commitment. See the chart below.
For every month that you sign up, there are a series of required dates (ex. If you sign up for the October date, you must volunteer on October 6, 13, 20, and 27).
For the first session of each month, you MUST arrive at 5:30 for an orientation and to take practice tests/familiarize yourself with materials.
All other sessions you can arrive at 6:15 pm.

Merrick House has served Tremont and the surrounding communities for more than 90 years. In the settlement house tradition, it has a rich history of providing programs and services to the community in areas such as child care, youth services, and adult education.
Age Limits: This project is for volunteers age 18 and up.
Where to Meet your Leader: It is advised to leave your valuables either at home or securely in your vehicle. This project has down time depending on the number of students that attend each session so it is helpful to bring a book or something to fill your time.
Things to Remember: Meet in the tutoring room on the 2nd floor.
Special Driving Directions: There is street parking available in front of the Merrick House.
