Do I need to have an e-mail create a volunteer account?
Yes. Our website uses your e-mail address to identify you and send you important information about any opportunities you sign up for. If you do not have an e-mail address, you can get one free of charge from Yahoo or Google. If setting up an email account is not an option, please call the HandsOn Office at 216-432-9390 for assistance.

Your personal information will remain secure and will never be sold to a marketing firm. HandsOn NEO is committed to maintaining the privacy of your information.

How do I begin volunteering at projects listed on the calendar?
HandsOn oriented volunteers have access to our calendar of 35+ projects per month. To become a HandsOn volunteer, create a volunteer account and attend a New Volunteer Orientation. Click here to create an account and click here to see upcoming New Volunteer Orientations
Non-oriented volunteers are invited to participate in our National Days of Service. These projects do not require a New Volunteer Orientation. Find out more on our Days of Service page.

I am a youth volunteer. How do I get started?
Youth volunteers 16 and over can volunteer on their own (without a parental guardian). With parental consent, create a volunteer account and attend a New Volunteer Orientation to begin volunteering. HandsOn has projects for volunteers ages 5 and up. Parents of youth volunteers under the age of 16 should create a volunteer account and attend a New Volunteer Orientation. Parents should also create a family team that will allow you to sign up your children for projects. Learn more on our Youth and Family page.

All volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a signed youth waiver to every project.

I have been waitlisted for a project. Now what?
If a spot opens up, everyone on the waitlist will receive an e-mail. The first person to log in to their volunteer account and sign up for the project will be added to the opportunity. Open spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

My hours are not accurate. Why aren’t my hours showing up?
Please allow 2-3 business days following a volunteer project for our Volunteer Leaders to verify attendance. If it takes longer than one week for your hours to show up on your Account Overview page, please e-mail info@HandsOnNEO.org.

I signed up for a project and now I cannot make it. What should I do?
We ask that volunteers remove themselves from a project at least three days prior to the opportunity. Login to your volunteer account and go to the "My Account" tab on the horizontal navigation bar, in the Upcoming Opportunities box. Click on the "Remove Me" link for the corresponding opportunity.

Please contact your volunteer leader directly if you need to withdraw from an opportunity with less than three days notice or call the HandsOn Help Line at 216-694-8166. Please understand that our service sites and clients depend on volunteers. We reserve the right to decline future volunteer requests from volunteers that repeatedly do not show up for volunteer opportunities or who frequently cancel.

Is there a volunteer requirement?
There is no required number of volunteer projects or hours at HandsOn NEO. We ask that you attend projects you have signed up for. We expect volunteers to arrive on time, check in with the Volunteer Leader, and stay the duration of the project.

Are there any fees for volunteers or non-profit partners?

What is a Volunteer Leader? How do I become a Volunteer Leader?
Volunteer Leaders are the backbone of HandsOn NEO projects. A Volunteer Leader leads HandsOn NEO projects after attending a two-hour training. Volunteer Leaders are on-site at projects and serve as an extension of the HandsOn NEO staff and our agency partner’s staff. Volunteer Leaders commit to leading 4-6 projects per year. Find out more about becoming a Volunteer Leader.

My company would like to organize a volunteer day. Who should I contact?
Our Business Shares program offers expertise in community service to corporations by creating customized, group volunteer projects that are in line with corporate values, provide team building opportunities, and leadership development. HandsOn NEO will fully develop and coordinate all aspects of your company’s volunteer project including food and transportation (if needed).

Business Shares projects do require a donation, which allows us to develop, manage, and lead ongoing projects. Contributions for a Business Shares project vary depending on the size of group, length of project, cost of non-reusable supplies, food and transportation. Contact Executive Director, Jeff Griffiths at Jeff@HandsOnNEO.org to learn more.

How is HandsOn NEO funded?
HandsOn NEO is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our funding comes from individual member support, local foundation grants, and corporate sponsorships.
