Team Volunteen! (Youth Volunteer Corps)

Join HandsOn NEO's Youth Volunteer Corps for a Saturday afternoon of service and fun! Teen volunteers (ages 11-18) are invited to participate in a unique and fun volunteer opportunity on the last Saturday of every month! Teens will learn about different issue areas while completing fun volunteer projects together.

Each month's project will focus on a different issue area and will include icebreakers, a service project with service learning, and a reflection.

HandsOn is proud to be an affiliate of the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC). Our mission is to create volunteer opportunities to address community needs and to inspire youth for a lifetime commitment to service. The program offers volunteer projects for youth ages 11 to 18 on weekends, after school and during the summer. HandsOn Northeast Ohio's YVC is one of over 40 affiliates spread across North America.

No Volunteer Orientation Necessary. ALL Teen Volunteers Welcome.
Please note: Volunteers must be age 11-18 to participate!


Things to Remember: This project is specifically designed for youth ages 11-18. It is an opportunity for teens to volunteer without a guardian present and to meet other youth volunteers. All youth attending Team Volunteen! will need a completed ‚ÄčYouth Volunteer Waiver in order to participate.

                  


July 22nd- Rooting Yourself at AfricaHouse International 


Project Description: Volunteers will help prepare the AfricaHouse International community garden by planting seeds, beautifying the garden by painting blocks and tires, and performing basic garden duties. 

About AfricaHouse International : AfricaHouse International is a community center in the Hough neighborhood that includes a learning center,  African- inspired community gardens, drum work shops, dance lessons, story telling, book clubs,  art classes, job and skill preparation classes and environmental stewardship education for all civilians. 


Things to remember: Dress comfortably in clothes you don't mind getting dirty or getting paint on and wear sensible, closed toe shoes. Leave your valuables at home or in your vehicle.

Age Limits: This project is for youth ages 11-18 only.  All youth attending Team Volunteen! will need a completed Youth Volunteer Waiver in order to participate.  It is an opportunity for teens to volunteer without a guardian present and to meet other youth volunteers.

Special Driving Instructions: Take Linwood or Hough Avenue to turn onto East 81st street. Parking is available on the east side of the street. 



July 29th- BINGO & Sundae Serving! 

Project Description: Volunteers will help make and pass out icecream sundaes and assist the senior residents of Eliza Jennings in playing BINGO! 

About Eliza Jennings
Eliza Jennings is a nonprofit organization that offers a range of services for today’s older adults. Whether seniors are seeking independent living in a secure community setting, searching for just the right assisted living environment or care in their own home, require rehabilitation or skilled nursing care, Eliza Jennings offers a solution for every need. The Eliza Jennings legacy began in 1888 with the philanthropy of their benefactress, Eliza Wallace Jennings, who intended to care for women of need. Eliza’s legacy of philanthropy and concern for older adults lives today, more than 125 years later, as a cornerstone of the organization and in their mission to serve older adults.

August 19th- Cleaning and Cat Toy Making at the Parma Animal Shelter! 

Project Description: Volunteers will help cut out fabric and make catnip peirogies, wash the walls of the shelter, and perform yard work in the dog exercise area. 

About Parma Animal Shelter:
The Parma Animal Shelter is run by volunteers for the stray and abandoned animals of the City of Parma. Volunteers dedicate their time to tasks such as walking the dogs, cleaning cages for the dogs and cats, feeding the animals, and giving them love. They also have volunteers that foster some of their animals in their home.
